Cúpla Focail le Seachtain na Gaeilge

Cúpla Focail le Seachtain na Gaeilge

Seachtain na Gaeilge is an international Irish language festival and the largest annual celebration of our native language and culture. It takes place this year from March 1st – 17th.

Tá brón orm, nil ach beagán Gaeilge agam. (I am sad that I only have a little Irish). Duirter: Is fearr Gaeilge bhriste ná Béarla cliste which means broken Irish is better than clever English. Not sure if I agree in my own case however! I thought it would be great for Human Reasons to contribute to Seachtain na Gaeilge with a few short snippets of information.

Rud a haon – First point:
This year ‘Lá Fhéile Pádraig,’ or St. Patrick’s Day will be celebrated during Seachtain na Gaeilge. We are all looking forward to the parades, celebrations and of course our new Bank Holiday.

Rud a dó – Second point:
Pádraig Pearse, is a famous Irish patriot who was also a teacher and a poet. He once said, “Tír gan Teanga, Tír gan Anam” which in English means, “A country without a language is a country without a soul.” Irish, our native tongue, continues in the present to be movingly expressed in the mythology, poetry, and language of Ireland.

Rud a trí – Third point is where Human Reasons can help!!
‘Tús maith, leath na h-oibre’ which means ‘A good start is half the work’.
